A little history of Provence Alpilles
The wonderful, stunning and historical Provence Alpilles are nestled between the rivers Rhône and Durance and are a prolongation of the enchanting Provence Luberon. Extolled by poets and immortalized by painters, The Alpilles rise to the south of the region. The Alpilles is a small limestone range with deeply cut hills, dotted with villages perched atop the hills, and with rocks sculpted by the wind, sunk in the middle of vineyards, olive groves, lavender fields and plantations of almond trees - rich in colours and scents. You will follow in the footsteps of Frédéric Mistral, Alphonse Daudet and Vincent Van Gogh -Imagine yourself on the spot painted by Van Gogh, or in Saint-Rémy at the time of Nostradamus ; an adventure into a land rich with art, history, traditions; discover Glanum and the Antiques, moulin/musée of Alphonse Daudet in Fontvieille, do not miss the Castle of the Beams of Provence, Le Baux de Provence the village strengthened and among most beautiful of France, where the ruins of a medieval city are drawn up, villages of traditional French construction and, of course, provençale cuisine !
The Alpilles region of Provence is steeped in rich history and was at one time and is still the haunt of the French aristocracy.
Not only are many people choosing the Alpilles and Provence as there secondary home, a great many people these days are taking advantage of the easy access and high speed travel facilities and commuting from the region to their place of work.
